What can the Microlife BP A2 Basic blood pressure monitor do?

The Microlife BP A2 Basic is an automatic blood pressure monitor for measuring on the upper arm at home. It works on the oscillometric principle and shows systolic and diastolic blood pressure together with the pulse rate.

It has PAD technology (Pulse Arrhythmia Detection), which flags irregular heartbeats detected during the measurement, and the Gentle+ function, which controls inflation speed and pressure. A traffic-light indicator places each reading in a blood pressure category, so the result is easy to interpret at a glance.

The monitor stores the last 30 readings with date and time and can show the average of the stored values. The conical M–L cuff fits upper arm circumferences from 22 to 42 cm, and indicators for cuff fit, arm movement and low battery help you take a correct reading.

How to use

Measure at the same time of day and preferably on the same arm (usually the left). Do not smoke, eat or exercise just before measuring.

Sit down and relax for at least 5 minutes.
Remove tight clothing from the upper arm; do not roll up a tight sleeve.
Place the cuff about 2 cm above the elbow with the artery mark over the artery on the inner arm; keep the cuff at heart level and the arm supported.
Press ON/OFF, stay still, breathe normally and do not talk until the result appears.
Wait at least 15 seconds between two readings; the average of two or more readings is more reliable.

Who is it for?

The monitor is intended for adults who want to check their blood pressure regularly at home – for example with diagnosed high blood pressure, to follow up treatment, or as a preventive check. The 22–42 cm cuff fits most adults; for a smaller or larger arm, Microlife offers other cuff sizes as accessories.

Important notes

The device does not replace a medical examination; never change prescribed medication on the basis of your readings.
If the arrhythmia symbol appears regularly (for example several times a week), discuss it with your doctor; the pulse display is not suitable for checking the rate of pacemakers.
According to the manual, the device has also been tested in pregnancy and pre-eclampsia; if readings are unusually high, measure again after 4 hours and contact your doctor if they stay high.
Children must not use the device unsupervised; small parts can be swallowed.
Do not wash the cuff in a washing machine or dishwasher; clean it with a damp cloth and mild soap. An accuracy check is recommended every 2 years or after a fall.

Most incorrect readings come from a badly placed or wrong-sized cuff, so measure your upper arm circumference at mid-arm before the first use. For a reliable picture, measure twice in a row in the morning and in the evening for one week, and take the readings or the stored average with you to your doctor. Do not worry about one single high reading – what counts is the trend over several days.
