Rapten Duo 75 mg is a prescription medicine containing diclofenac sodium. It belongs to a group of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – NSAIDs, which reduce pain, swelling and inflammation but do not treat the underlying cause of the disease or injury.
Rapten Duo is a two-layer modified-release tablet. The first gastro-resistant layer contains 25 mg of diclofenac sodium and releases the active substance after reaching the small intestine. The second layer contains 50 mg of diclofenac sodium with delayed and prolonged release.
Rapten Duo is available only with a medical prescription. It contains diclofenac sodium only and does not contain misoprostol. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest period required to control symptoms. Do not combine it with ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, another diclofenac medicine, analgesic doses of aspirin or another NSAID unless specifically instructed by a doctor.

What is Rapten Duo used for?
Rapten Duo is used to reduce pain and inflammation associated with:
- rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and spondyloarthritis;
- psoriatic arthropathy, painful spinal syndromes and extra-articular rheumatism;
- periarthritis, including frozen shoulder;
- tendinitis, tenosynovitis and bursitis;
- lower-back pain;
- fractures, sprains, strains and dislocations;
- post-traumatic and post-operative pain, swelling and inflammation;
- pain following dental, orthopaedic and other minor surgical procedures;
- acute gout;
- painful periods and certain other painful or inflammatory gynaecological conditions.
The medicine relieves symptoms but does not cure the underlying cause of arthritis, injury, gout or another condition.
How is Rapten Duo taken?
Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The recommended initial daily dose for adults is 75–150 mg of diclofenac, equivalent to one or two Rapten Duo 75 mg tablets.
- One 75 mg tablet daily is often sufficient for milder conditions and longer-term treatment.
- The maximum daily dose is 150 mg, equivalent to two tablets.
- If symptoms are most severe at night or early in the morning, the doctor may recommend taking the tablet in the evening.
Swallow the tablet whole with a sufficient amount of water, preferably during or immediately after a meal.
Do not break, divide, crush or chew the tablet, because this would interfere with the modified-release mechanism.
Older patients
People aged 65 years and older, frail patients and people with a low body weight may be more sensitive to diclofenac side effects. The lowest effective dose and careful monitoring for stomach, intestinal, cardiovascular, kidney and liver problems are particularly important.
Who must not take Rapten Duo?
- people allergic to diclofenac or another ingredient;
- people who developed asthma, breathing difficulty, rhinitis, hives or swelling after aspirin, ibuprofen or another NSAID;
- patients with an active or recurrent stomach or duodenal ulcer;
- patients with previous NSAID-related gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation;
- patients with liver failure;
- patients with severe kidney impairment;
- patients with established heart failure classified as NYHA II–IV;
- patients with ischaemic heart disease or a previous heart attack;
- patients with peripheral arterial disease;
- patients with cerebrovascular disease, a previous stroke or transient ischaemic attack;
- women during the final three months of pregnancy.
The medicine contains lactose and the colour FDC Yellow No. 6, also known as E110, which may cause an allergic reaction in sensitive people.
Important precautions
Tell the doctor before treatment if you have or previously had:
- high blood pressure or mild heart failure;
- diabetes, high cholesterol or triglycerides, or if you smoke;
- kidney or liver disease;
- an ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis;
- asthma, chronic lung disease, hay fever or nasal polyps;
- a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder;
- systemic lupus erythematosus or another connective-tissue disorder;
- dehydration;
- recent or planned stomach or intestinal surgery.
Diclofenac may mask headache, fever and other signs of infection. Tell the doctor that Rapten Duo is being used if infection symptoms persist or worsen.
The risk of heart attack and stroke increases with higher doses and longer treatment, particularly during prolonged use of 150 mg of diclofenac daily.
Interactions with other medicines
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you use:
- ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, aspirin or another NSAID;
- anticoagulants such as warfarin or antiplatelet medicines;
- corticosteroids;
- SSRI antidepressants;
- diuretics, ACE inhibitors, beta blockers or other blood-pressure medicines;
- lithium or digoxin;
- methotrexate;
- ciclosporin or tacrolimus;
- trimethoprim;
- quinolone antibiotics;
- phenytoin;
- rifampicin or voriconazole;
- medicines for diabetes;
- colestipol or cholestyramine.
Colestipol and cholestyramine may reduce diclofenac absorption. Rapten Duo should be taken at least one hour before or four to six hours after these medicines, according to medical instructions.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
During the first six months of pregnancy, Rapten Duo should be used only when the doctor considers treatment necessary, at the lowest dose and for the shortest possible period.
Rapten Duo must not be used during the final three months of pregnancy, because it may harm the unborn baby or cause complications during labour.
Diclofenac passes into breast milk in small amounts, so Rapten Duo is not recommended while breastfeeding.
Diclofenac may temporarily reduce female fertility. Women planning a pregnancy or experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant should consult their doctor.
Possible side effects
Common side effects may include:
- abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea;
- indigestion, flatulence and reduced appetite;
- headache, dizziness or vertigo;
- rash;
- increased liver-enzyme levels.
Palpitations and chest pain may occur uncommonly. Gastritis, drowsiness, hives, fluid retention, swelling and liver problems have been reported rarely.
Serious adverse effects may include gastrointestinal ulcers or bleeding, blood-cell disorders, serious skin reactions, kidney or liver damage, severe allergic reactions, heart attack or stroke.
- black stools, blood in the stools or vomiting blood;
- severe or sudden abdominal pain;
- difficulty breathing, wheezing or an asthma attack;
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, hands or feet;
- a severe rash, painful skin changes, blistering or peeling;
- yellowing of the skin or eyes;
- an unexpected change in the amount or appearance of urine;
- chest pain or pressure and shortness of breath;
- sudden weakness on one side of the body or speech disturbance;
- a stiff neck, severe headache, fever and sensitivity to light;
- abdominal cramps or tenderness followed by rectal bleeding or bloody diarrhoea.
Driving and using machines
Do not drive or operate machinery if dizziness, vertigo, drowsiness, blurred vision, double vision or another central nervous system effect occurs.
Overdose and missed dose
An overdose may cause vomiting, stomach bleeding, diarrhoea, dizziness, tinnitus or seizures. Severe overdose may cause kidney or liver injury.
Contact a doctor or the nearest medical facility immediately if too much medicine has been taken. Bring the original packaging.
If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take a double dose.
The most dangerous mistake is combining Rapten Duo with another oral NSAID. Ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, analgesic doses of aspirin or another diclofenac medicine will not usually provide proportionally greater relief, but may substantially increase the risk of ulcers, bleeding, kidney injury and cardiovascular complications. Tell the doctor and pharmacist if you have a history of stomach problems or take a blood thinner.

Composition, appearance and packaging
Each modified-release tablet contains 75 mg of diclofenac sodium.
Other ingredients include maize starch, lactose monohydrate, sodium starch glycolate, hypromellose, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, gastro-resistant coating ingredients, simeticone and the colour E110.
Rapten Duo is a round, biconvex, two-layer tablet. One layer is orange and the other is white to yellowish-white.
The pack contains three blisters of 10 tablets, providing a total of 30 tablets.

Storage
Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25°C in the original packaging to protect the medicine from light.

Frequently asked questions
Does Rapten Duo contain misoprostol?
No. Rapten Duo contains only 75 mg of diclofenac sodium. It should not be confused with combination medicines containing diclofenac and misoprostol.
Can the tablet be divided?
No. Do not break, divide, crush or chew the tablet because it has a modified-release formulation.
Should Rapten Duo be taken before or after food?
It is best taken during or immediately after a meal with a sufficient amount of water.
Can Rapten Duo be taken with ibuprofen?
Not unless specifically instructed by a doctor. Both medicines are NSAIDs and the combination increases the risk of serious adverse effects.
What is the maximum daily dose?
