When is it used?

QUIT shampoo is used when live head lice are found on the hair or scalp. Infestation is best confirmed through careful inspection, particularly behind the ears and at the nape of the neck, using a fine-toothed lice comb.

Directions

1. Wet the hair with water.
2. Apply enough shampoo to the scalp and hair.
3. Distribute carefully, paying particular attention to the area behind the ears and the nape of the neck.
4. Leave the shampoo on for approximately ten minutes.
5. Comb the hair thoroughly, strand by strand, with a fine-toothed lice comb.
6. Rinse with plenty of water, avoiding contact with the eyes, nose and mouth.
7. Dry the hair with a clean towel.

The publicly available product instructions state that treatment may be repeated after 24 hours if necessary. If newly hatched lice appear from remaining nits, the procedure may be repeated after seven days. Do not reapply automatically or more frequently than stated on the physical package.

Important precautions

• protect the eyes, mouth and nose from contact with the shampoo;
• if the product enters the eyes, rinse immediately and thoroughly with clean water;
• do not use on inflamed, infected, scratched or otherwise damaged scalp;
• stop use if marked burning, swelling, rash or another hypersensitivity reaction develops;
• do not use routinely for prevention when live lice have not been found;
• do not use simultaneously with another insecticidal lice product unless advised by a pharmacist or doctor;
• seek professional advice before use in very young children, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in chronic scalp disease;
• do not use excessive amounts or repeat treatment more frequently than instructed;
• store in the original package below 25°C and keep out of the reach of children.

Pharmacist’s advice

Begin treatment only after finding a live louse. White flakes or an itchy scalp alone do not confirm head lice, as they may also occur with dandruff, dry skin or other scalp conditions.

After treatment, comb the hair strand by strand from the roots to the ends. Wipe or rinse the comb after every section and recheck the hair every two to three days for the following two to three weeks.

Check all household members and close contacts. Treat people with confirmed live lice at the same time, but do not apply insecticidal products preventively to uninfested family members.

Wash pillowcases, towels, hats and clothing recently in direct contact with the hair. Clean combs and brushes thoroughly, and do not share combs, hair accessories, hats, towels or headphones.

If active lice remain after a correctly completed treatment and retreatment, do not continue repeatedly applying the same product. Consult a pharmacist or doctor to assess incorrect application, reinfestation or possible reduced sensitivity to permethrin.
