Hydrolysed proteins as a source of amino acids

Amino Magic Fuel combines hydrolysed collagen and whey protein hydrolysate. Hydrolysis breaks proteins down into smaller peptides, which are subsequently used as a source of amino acids during digestion and metabolism.

One serving provides a total of 20 g protein. Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass, making the formula relevant for physically active adults who want to supplement their daily protein intake.

BCAA – leucine, isoleucine and valine

According to the current product declaration, one serving provides 1.5 g BCAA.

BCAA refers to three essential branched-chain amino acids:

L-leucine,
L-isoleucine,
L-valine.

The label should be interpreted accurately: the product provides 20 g total protein, of which 1.5 g is declared as BCAA. It therefore should not be described as providing 20 g of pure free amino acids or 20 g of BCAA.

B vitamins

Each serving provides 100% of the reference intake for niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B12, and biotin.

B vitamins have established physiological roles including normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal nervous-system function and, for several of these vitamins, the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

L-carnitine, choline and inositol

The formula additionally provides 25 mg L-carnitine, 25 mg choline and 100 mg inositol per serving.

These quantities should be considered in the context of the complete formula. In particular, 25 mg L-carnitine is a relatively small quantity compared with dedicated high-dose L-carnitine products, so Amino Magic Fuel should not be presented as a high-dose carnitine supplement.

The precise ingredient list varies slightly by flavour. The current Energy declaration additionally lists colour E129.

Allergens: contains whey protein – milk. Because the formula contains collagen and whey protein, it is not suitable for a vegan diet.

Pharmacist's advice

The most important point when reading the Amino Magic Fuel label is the distinction between total protein and BCAA. One serving provides 20 g total protein but 1.5 g BCAA, so the product should not be described as containing 20 g of pure BCAA or free amino acids.

For an active adult, 20 g protein can make a meaningful contribution to daily protein intake. However, the formula combines collagen with whey protein hydrolysate and should not automatically be considered equivalent to a conventional whey protein product.

The L-carnitine content is also worth noting: 25 mg per serving is low compared with dedicated L-carnitine formulas. If a high dose of L-carnitine is the main supplementation goal, choose a product in which L-carnitine is the principal active ingredient.

One serving also contains around 6 g of sugars. This can fit into the diet of most healthy active adults, but it is worth considering for people who closely monitor carbohydrate or sugar intake.
