How do you take a temperature correctly with the Prizma DMT 4333 digital thermometer?
Prizma DMT 4333 is a digital thermometer with a flexible tip for measuring body temperature in the mouth (orally), in the rectum (rectally) or under the arm (axillary). According to the instruction manual, it is intended for home and clinical use, for all age groups.
The thermometer is made by Joytech Healthcare, and the importer and authorised representative for Serbia is Prizma Kragujevac. The device measures temperature in the range 32.0–42.9 °C and shows the result on an LCD display. When the measured value reaches 37.8 °C or higher, the thermometer sounds a faster beep as a warning of raised temperature.
A bendable tip is more comfortable to use than a rigid one, especially under the tongue and in small children. The thermometer stores the last reading, and the battery is already installed. A storage case is included in the pack.
Key benefits:
- Flexible tip for more comfortable measuring.
- Three measuring methods: oral, rectal and under the arm.
- Audible alarm when temperature reaches 37.8 °C or higher.
- Stores the last measured reading.
- Pre-installed battery and automatic power-off after 10 minutes.
- Storage case and easy disinfection of the tip with alcohol.

The thermometer complies with the standards for clinical electrical thermometers (EN 12470-3, ISO 80601-2-56). It is a direct-reading thermometer, not a predictive model, so the measurement lasts until the tip temperature stops rising.
How to use
Switch the thermometer on and wait for the flashing °C symbol to appear. The measurement is finished when the beep sounds. According to the manual, for a more reliable result leave the thermometer in place for about another 2 minutes (oral and rectal) or about 5 minutes (under the arm) after the beep. Wait at least 30 seconds between two measurements.
- Oral: place the tip under the tongue, close the mouth and breathe evenly through the nose.
- Rectal: lubricate the tip with petroleum jelly and gently insert about 1 cm; do not force it and stop if there is pain.
- Under the arm: wipe the armpit dry, place the tip and press the arm firmly against the body.
- Cleaning: wipe the tip with a soft cloth and disinfect it with 75% alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol) before and after use.
Who is it for?
The thermometer is intended for families for everyday monitoring of body temperature in children and adults, as well as for use in surgeries and institutions.
According to the manual, normal values differ by measuring site: oral 35.7–37.3 °C, rectal 36.2–37.7 °C, under the arm 35.2–36.7 °C. Measuring under the arm is practical but, according to the manufacturer, less accurate than oral or rectal measurement.
Important notes
- Do not use the same thermometer orally after rectal use; do not take oral temperatures in children aged 2 years or younger.
- The battery and cover can be swallowed – keep them out of the reach of children and supervise children during measurement.
- Do not bite the thermometer, do not put it in the ear and do not measure while the thermometer is wet.
- Do not immerse the tip in alcohol or in water hotter than 50 °C and do not clean it ultrasonically.
- The reading is not a substitute for an examination – consult a doctor to interpret raised temperature.
Pharmacist's advice:
To monitor temperature, always measure at the same site, because values under the arm, in the mouth and rectally differ. If you measure under the arm, do not remove the thermometer immediately after the beep – wait a few more minutes, as the manual recommends.
If several family members use the thermometer, disinfect the tip with alcohol after each use. For rectal measurement in babies it is practical to have a separate thermometer used only for that purpose.
