At Sandoz, we are discovering new ways to improve and prolong people's lives. With our innovative approach, we contribute to making quality health services more accessible to people around the world. To this end, we are implementing an integrated approach strategy that focuses our work on better access to medicines and medical information, as well as on strengthening the capacity of the health system, including providing appropriate training and support to health workers. In 2015, our products were used by about 520 million patients, and our wish is to reach a billion people.
At least 400 million people in the world do not have access to basic health services, and more than 2 billion cannot afford the necessary medicines.
Sandoz is a global leader in biosimilar drugs, generic antibiotics, dermatological drugs and transplant drugs, and is a world leader in many other areas, from generic cardiovascular and central nervous system (CNS) drugs. , to agents used in pain therapy, ophthalmology, oncology, pulmonology and hormone therapy. At the heart of our brand portfolio is a wide range of state-of-the-art technologies, formulations and devices that include long-acting and multi-component tablets, ointments and gels, transdermal patches, lyophilized products, implants and inhalers. We have strong scientific roots that drive many innovations in medicine, from the first penicillin for oral use in 1951, to the first biosimilar drugs in Europe and the United States; new drug delivery technologies (such as our award-winning Forspiro inhaler and Fentanyl transdermal patches) bring real improvements over other products on the market. We do not dwell on the offer of standard products, but we add value to the health system through various support services and value-added drugs, such as combined formulations. Among them are the application for health workers "Sandoz Pro", which was launched by our Canadian subsidiary, as well as the "polytableta - three in one" for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Better access to medicines is at the core of our day-to-day business model, and we also implement various corporate responsibility programs to provide access to medicines to those who need them most. The goal of these programs is to meet the specific health needs of people in poor communities, promote access to health information, and assist in capacity building.
