The Zig Zag Mosquito Repellent Lotion, unscented (odorless) is a fragrance-free variant of the Zig Zag Tropical lotion range by Deisa Ebano S.p.A. (Bologna), whose repellents are also manufactured by TOP Deisa d.o.o. in Lajkovac, Serbia. It is a lotion in a plastic bottle with a gas-free pump spray, applied directly to exposed skin.

According to Serbian product descriptions, the lotion repels mosquitoes, other flying insects and sand flies, as well as ticks, and provides up to 8 hours of protection. Its active substance is DEET. The unscented version is a practical choice for people who dislike perfumed repellents or want to avoid an added scent when they are close to others, at work or in the evening.

Active substance and features

The active substance of the lotion is DEET (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide). How to use

Application according to the EU documentation for Zig Zag DEET lotions (follow the label on your pack):

Hold the bottle about 10 cm from the skin and spray only onto uncovered areas, for example three sprays per forearm.
Spread the lotion with your hand into a thin, even layer; do not apply under clothing.
Never spray directly into the face – put the lotion on your palms and apply around the face, keeping it away from the eyes and lips.
Use a maximum of two applications per day.
Wash your hands after use.

Who is it for?

The unscented lotion suits adults who are bothered by mosquitoes in the evening, by the water or while travelling, and who prefer a repellent without perfume. According to the EU product documentation it must not be used on children under 2 years; for children up to 12, an adult should apply it to their skin (some labels set the minimum age at 3 years, so always check the pack). For pregnancy and breastfeeding, ask a doctor or pharmacist before use.

Important notes

Not for use on broken, irritated or sunburnt skin; do not use if you are allergic to DEET.
May cause serious eye irritation – if the lotion gets into the eyes, rinse with water for several minutes.
Flammable: do not use near open flames or hot surfaces.
Keep away from food, plastics and varnished surfaces; store below 50 °C and out of children's reach.

Pharmacist's advice:

Unscented does not mean milder: the active substance is the same as in the scented variants, so the same precautions apply. If you have sensitive skin, test a small area of the forearm first and do not apply the lotion more often than the label allows.

When you also use sunscreen, apply the sunscreen first, wait until it has absorbed, and only then apply the repellent. In the evening, wash the lotion off with soap and water before going to bed, especially on children.

1. Is the unscented version less effective than the scented ones?

No information suggests that. Fragrance is not an active ingredient – the unscented variant contains the same active substance, DEET, and the same protection claim (up to 8 hours) is given for it by Serbian retailers.

2. Does it also protect against ticks?

Yes. Serbian product descriptions list ticks among the target organisms, and the EU authorisations for the Zig Zag lotion range include ticks (Ixodes ricinus). For long stays in tick habitats, the dedicated Zig Zag tick lotion is also available in our pharmacy.

3. How often can I reapply it?

According to the EU documentation for this lotion range, no more than twice a day. If protection wears off earlier because of sweating or swimming, reapply carefully within that limit.

4. Can I use it on the face?

Yes, but not by spraying directly. Spray onto your palms and apply around the face, avoiding the eyes, lips and mouth.

Delivery outside the territory of the Republic of Serbia, ie export of goods, is done exclusively through the service of DHL and PostExport Post of Serbia.

For goods ordered up to 5.000,00 RSD, delivery charge is 350.00 RSD (VAT included). For goods over 5.000,00 RSD, shipping is free of charge.
