What should you know before using Fructus Uva bearberry leaf tea?

Fructus Uva is a herbal tea made from bearberry leaf (uva-ursi, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) from the Classic line of the Serbian producer Fructus. The pack contains 20 filter bags of 1.5 g (30 g).

The tea is a single-herb tea – according to the declaration it contains only bearberry leaf (100%). Bearberry leaf has a long tradition in herbal practice, and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has published a herbal monograph for it that clearly sets out the limits of use.

Because of these limits, bearberry leaf is not a tea for everyday or long-term drinking: according to the EMA, bearberry leaf preparations are not used for more than one week, are not recommended for people under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and are not used in kidney disorders.

Pour 2 dl (200 ml) of boiling water over the filter bag and cover.
Remove the bag after 5 minutes.

The tea is intended for adults who wish to use a traditional bearberry leaf herbal tea for a short time and are aware of the limits of its use.

According to the EMA, use in men is not recommended without medical supervision, nor is it recommended for children and adolescents under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Bearberry leaf is a typical example of a plant where how long you drink it matters: one week at most, then a break. If you have frequent urinary complaints, do not deal with them through repeated tea “courses” – see a doctor, as recurring complaints need to be investigated.

Also check whether you are using another product with bearberry leaf at the same time (tea blends, capsules, sachets), so that the intake does not add up. While drinking the tea, take enough fluids during the day and do not be surprised if your urine changes colour – this is a known effect of bearberry leaf.
