Rasetron 1 mg and 2 mg contains the active substance granisetron. It belongs to a group of medicines called serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists or antiemetics.
It is used in adults to prevent and treat acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Rasetron must be used according to the precise plan prescribed by the oncology team.

Rasetron – what is it used for and how should it be taken?
Rasetron is used in adults for the prevention and treatment of acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
It is not intended for independent treatment of gastroenteritis, food poisoning, travel sickness, pregnancy-related nausea, alcohol-related vomiting or nausea of unknown cause.
The prescribed regimen may be:
- one 1 mg tablet twice daily;
- two 1 mg tablets once daily;
- one 2 mg tablet once daily.
The first dose is generally taken within one hour before chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Treatment may continue for up to one week after therapy according to the doctor’s instructions.
This information is not a self-dosing guide. The oncology team determines the strength, timing, duration and combination with other antiemetic medicines.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water.
- Do not independently change the dose.
- Follow the prescribed timing in relation to chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
- Do not take an additional dose without medical advice.
- Do not stop before completing the prescribed course.
If a dose is missed, contact the doctor or oncology nurse. Do not take a double dose.
Granisetron may reduce bowel motility. Patients with severe constipation, abdominal distension or possible intestinal obstruction must be monitored carefully.
Particular caution is required in patients with heart disease, arrhythmias, prolonged QT interval, cardiotoxic chemotherapy or abnormal electrolyte levels.
Do not take Rasetron if you are allergic to granisetron or another ingredient.
Tell the doctor about bowel obstruction, severe constipation, heart-rhythm or conduction disorders, abnormal potassium, sodium or calcium, liver disease or a previous allergy to ondansetron, dolasetron or another 5-HT3 antagonist.
Important interactions
Interactions or additional risks may occur with other 5-HT3 antagonists, medicines affecting cardiac rhythm or the QT interval, erythromycin, ketoconazole, phenobarbital and serotonergic medicines.
Serotonergic medicines include fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, venlafaxine and duloxetine.
Combining granisetron with serotonergic treatment may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Symptoms may include agitation, confusion, hallucinations, sweating, fever, rapid heartbeat, diarrhoea, tremor, muscle twitching, stiffness and loss of coordination.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Granisetron should generally be avoided during pregnancy unless the doctor considers treatment necessary. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
Possible side effects
Very common side effects are headache and constipation. Common effects include insomnia, diarrhoea and changes in liver-enzyme test results.
Less common but potentially important effects include allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, rash, hives, QT-interval prolongation, abnormal movements and serotonin syndrome.
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue, mouth or throat;
- difficulty breathing or swallowing;
- fainting or a rapid or irregular heartbeat;
- severe abdominal pain and distension with inability to pass stools or gas;
- high temperature, confusion, hallucinations and excessive sweating;
- tremor, muscle twitching, marked stiffness or loss of coordination;
- persistent vomiting that prevents fluids or essential medicines from being retained.
Composition and storage
Each film-coated tablet contains 1 mg or 2 mg of granisetron as granisetron hydrochloride. The tablets contain lactose.

- No special storage conditions are required.
- Do not use after the expiry date.
Take Rasetron according to the precise schedule provided by the oncology team, particularly when the dose has been timed in relation to chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
Monitor vomiting frequency, fluid intake, urination and bowel movements. Severe constipation, marked abdominal swelling or inability to retain fluids requires medical advice.
Check ginger products, vitamins, electrolyte solutions and other nausea remedies with the oncology team before use.
