How do Philips Avent Ultra Air SCF087/10 pacifiers for 6–18 months differ from ordinary pacifiers?

Philips Avent Ultra Air SCF087/10 is a pack of two pacifiers from the Ultra Air range, intended for babies aged 6 to 18 months. The main feature of the range is a lightweight shield with extra-large air holes, which allow better airflow and help keep the skin around the mouth dry.

The nipple has a symmetrical, orthodontic shape that follows the natural shape of the palate, teeth and gums, so it does not matter which way round the baby holds the pacifier. It is made of soft silicone with a silky, textured surface. The pacifiers are BPA-free and have a ring-shaped safety handle.

The code SCF087/10 denotes a specific design variant within the Ultra Air 6–18 m range; other designs of the same range have a different model code but the same technical features.

How to use and care

Before first use, boil the pacifiers for 5 minutes, let them cool for 5 minutes and then shake any remaining water out of the nipple.
Before each use, wash them with warm water and mild soap; do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
The pacifiers can be sterilised by common methods – boiling or, for the Ultra Air range, in the microwave according to the manufacturer's instructions.
For hygiene and safety reasons, replace the pacifier after 4 weeks of use.

Who is it for?

Babies aged 6 to 18 months. For younger babies, choose Ultra Air pacifiers for the appropriate age, as the size of the pacifier should match the child's age.

Important notes

Inspect the pacifier carefully before each use and pull the nipple in all directions; throw it away at the first sign of damage or weakness.
Never attach ribbons or cords to a pacifier – there is a risk of strangulation. Only use a pacifier clip that complies with regulations.
Do not leave the pacifier in direct sunlight, near a heat source or in disinfectant for longer than recommended, as this can weaken the nipple.
Always use it under adult supervision.

Pharmacist's advice:

Silicone pacifiers last longer when they are not exposed to sunlight and harsh cleaning agents, but still replace them every 4 weeks – and definitely earlier if you notice a crack, stickiness or a change in the shape of the nipple. It is practical to have two pacifiers in rotation – one in use while the other is washed and sterilised.

If your baby refuses the pacifier, do not dip it in honey or sugar. Patience and offering it at a calm moment usually work better.
