How do Philips Avent Ultra Air SCF087/12 pacifiers help keep the skin around your baby's mouth dry?

Philips Avent Ultra Air SCF087/12 is a twin pack of pacifiers for babies aged 6 to 18 months. The Ultra Air range was designed so that the pacifier "covers" as little skin as possible: the shield is lightweight and has extra-large holes through which air flows freely.

When a baby keeps a pacifier in for a long time, saliva easily collects under the shield. Philips states that the large holes let the skin breathe and help keep it soft and dry. The nipple is symmetrical and orthodontic – it respects the natural shape of the palate, teeth and gums, so the baby can hold it either way up – and its soft silicone surface feels silky.

The pacifiers are BPA-free and have a ring-shaped safety handle. The code SCF087/12 denotes a specific design variant of the Ultra Air pacifiers for 6–18 months; other variants of the same range have different codes and the same technical features.

Key benefits:

  • Shield with extra-large holes lets the skin breathe.
  • Helps keep the skin around the mouth soft and dry.
  • Symmetrical orthodontic nipple – the baby can hold it either way up.
  • Soft, silky silicone nipple surface.
  • BPA-free, with a ring-shaped safety handle.

How to use and care

Prepare and care for the pacifiers according to Philips' instructions:

  • Before first use, place the pacifiers in boiling water for 5 minutes, let them cool for 5 minutes and remove any water left in the nipple by holding it upside down.
  • Before each use, wash them with warm water and mild soap; do not use abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive chemicals.
  • The pacifiers are suitable for all commonly used forms of sterilisation. Clean your hands and surfaces thoroughly before touching sterilised pacifiers.
  • For safety and hygiene reasons, replace the pacifier after 4 weeks of use.

Who is it for?

The pack is intended for babies aged 6 to 18 months, especially those whose skin around the mouth tends to get wet while using a pacifier. For a younger or older child, choose a pacifier of the size appropriate for their age.

Important notes

  • Inspect the pacifier carefully before each use and pull it in all directions; throw it away at the first sign of damage or weakness.
  • Never attach ribbons or cords to a pacifier – there is a risk of strangulation. Only use a pacifier holder that complies with regulations.
  • Never dip the nipple in sweet substances or medication – this can contribute to tooth decay.
  • Do not leave the pacifier in direct sunlight, near a heat source or in disinfectant for longer than recommended.
  • Always use the product under adult supervision.

Pharmacist's advice:

An airy shield is helpful, but the skin around the mouth only stays dry if the pacifier itself is dry and clean. After washing, shake the water out of the nipple and let the pacifier dry completely before giving it back to your baby or packing it away.

Every time before giving it to your baby, briefly pull the nipple in several directions – it takes a few seconds and reveals a crack or thinned silicone in time. Throw such a pacifier away immediately, regardless of how long it has been used.
