When age and condition allow correct use, a mouthpiece generally reduces aerosol loss compared with a face mask. For young children, the mask should fit close to the face without being uncomfortably tight.

After nebulizing a corticosteroid medication, rinse the mouth with water. When a face mask has been used, wash the facial skin to remove aerosol residue.

After every treatment, disassemble and clean the medication cup, mask or mouthpiece according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow all parts to dry completely before reassembly and storage.
