How does the Microlife NEB 400 nebuliser work and what is included in the pack?
The Microlife NEB 400 is a piston compressor nebuliser for home aerosol therapy. It turns liquid medication or inhalation solutions into a fine mist that is breathed in through a mask or mouthpiece, and is intended for treating the upper and lower respiratory tract.
Microlife describes it as a fast nebuliser for short inhalation times, with a child-friendly design and simple one-button operation. The particle size (MMAD) is 2.83 µm and the nebulisation rate 0.4 ml/min, and the device is suitable for all common inhalation solutions.
The pack contains everything needed to start: a nebuliser, air tube, mouthpiece, adult and child face masks, a nose piece, 5 replacement air filters and a carrying bag. The nebuliser holder on the back of the device keeps the parts within reach, and the accessories can be washed and disinfected.

How to use
Assemble the nebuliser and fill it with the solution prescribed by your doctor, without exceeding the maximum level. Connect the air tube to the compressor, plug the device into the mains socket and switch it on.
Use a mask that fully covers the mouth and nose, or the mouthpiece. Sit upright during inhalation – do not lie down – and stop if you feel unwell. After treatment, switch the device off, unplug it, empty any remaining solution and clean the parts. After 30 minutes of operation, let the device rest for 30 minutes.
- Nebuliser, mouthpiece and nose piece: rinse under tap water and boil for 5 minutes, then run the device for 10–15 minutes with the parts connected to dry them.
- Masks and air tube: wash in warm water; use only cold disinfectants – do not boil them.
- Check the air filter every 10–12 treatments and replace it if it is grey, brown or wet, and at the latest after about 200 hours of operation or once a year.
- Replace the nebuliser every 6–12 months depending on use, or sooner if it is deformed or blocked.
Who is it for?
The NEB 400 is intended for home inhalation treatment in children and adults, as recommended by a doctor – for example with saline solutions or medication for the upper and lower respiratory tract. Because masks of two sizes and a mouthpiece are included, one device can be used by several family members, each with their own accessories.
Important notes
- Use only medication and solutions prescribed or recommended by your doctor, and check the medicine leaflet for contraindications. Use the nose piece only if your doctor advises it.
- Accessories should not be shared between people – each user needs their own nebuliser and mask.
- The device is not suitable for anaesthesia or ventilation. Children must be supervised during treatment; the device is not a toy.
- Do not use the device without the air filter, and keep it away from liquids and wet hands.
Pharmacist's advice:
For young children, a well-fitting mask and a calm atmosphere matter more than the length of the treatment – a mask that leaves gaps lets much of the mist escape. Hold the nebuliser upright, let the child sit on your lap and breathe normally. Clean and dry the parts after every use, as moisture left in the nebuliser and tube encourages bacterial growth. If the child is using medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist about the order of inhalations and how long to continue the treatment.
