Tyrosur Gel 1 mg/g is a topical antibiotic containing the active substance tyrothricin. It is used for the treatment of small, superficial and moderately moist wounds with a bacterial superinfection caused by microorganisms sensitive to tyrothricin.
The medicine is available in tubes containing 5 g or 15 g of gel. One gram of gel contains 1 mg of tyrothricin. The composition, strength, approved use and method of application are the same for both pack sizes; only the amount of gel in the tube differs.

What does Tyrosur Gel contain?

What is Tyrosur Gel used for?
Tyrosur Gel is used for the treatment of small, superficial and moderately moist wounds, such as:
- minor lacerations;
- scratches;
- abrasions and grazes.
The medicine is intended for these wounds when a bacterial superinfection caused by microorganisms sensitive to tyrothricin is present.
Redness, pain or moisture around a wound does not by itself confirm a bacterial infection. Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are unsure whether the wound corresponds to the approved use of this medicine.
Limited indication: Tyrosur Gel is not intended for independent treatment of deep, extensive, heavily contaminated or puncture wounds, animal bites, major burns or wounds with heavy bleeding. These injuries require professional medical assessment.
How is Tyrosur Gel applied?
Always use this medicine exactly as stated in the official package leaflet or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.
Adults and children aged one year and over: Apply Tyrosur Gel two to three times daily in a sufficient amount to completely cover the injured area of skin.
A dressing is generally not necessary for small wounds or inflamed areas on exposed parts of the body.
For larger or very moist wounds, a protective dressing is recommended. The dressing should be changed after one to two days or according to the doctor’s instructions.
The duration of treatment depends on the clinical appearance and progress of the wound. Consult a doctor if there is no improvement after seven days.
Review after seven days: If the wound remains red, painful or moist, or continues to show signs of infection, treatment should be reassessed. Whenever possible, the bacterial cause should be identified.
Use in children
Tyrosur Gel may be used in adults and children aged one year and over according to the instructions in the official package leaflet.
The medicine is not intended for children under one year of age. A larger, deeper or unclear skin injury in a child should be assessed by a paediatrician or another healthcare professional.
When must Tyrosur Gel not be used?
Do not use the medicine:
- if you are allergic to tyrothricin or any of the other ingredients;
- on the nasal mucosa;
- inside the eyes.
Tyrosur Gel is not suitable for intranasal use because application inside the nose may damage the sense of smell.
Warnings and precautions
Take special care when applying the gel close to the eyes. The medicine must not come into direct contact with the eyes because it may cause a burning sensation.
If the gel enters an eye, rinse it carefully with clean water. Seek medical advice if burning, redness or another problem persists.
Consult a doctor if the wound becomes worse, redness spreads, pain or swelling increases, discharge develops or there is no improvement after seven days.
Do not mix Tyrosur Gel with another medicine or apply several medicines to the same area without first consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
Interactions with other medicines
The influence of other medicines on Tyrosur Gel is not known. Tyrosur Gel is also not known to affect the action of another medicine.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines, antiseptics, creams, ointments or other products that you apply to the injured skin.
Compatibility studies have not been performed. Tyrosur Gel should therefore not be mixed with other medicines.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Pregnancy: There are no adequate data on the use of Tyrosur Gel during pregnancy. The potential risk to humans is unknown. Use during pregnancy is therefore not recommended.
Breastfeeding: It is not known whether tyrothricin or cetylpyridinium chloride passes into breast milk. Use during breastfeeding is therefore not recommended.
Driving and using machines
No special precautions are required when driving or using machines.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Tyrosur Gel may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Very rare side effects, which may affect fewer than 1 in 10,000 people, include hypersensitivity reactions such as a burning sensation on the skin.
Stop using the medicine and contact a doctor: Discontinue treatment if marked burning, rash, severe itching, swelling, pronounced redness or another sign of hypersensitivity develops after application.
Tell a doctor or pharmacist about any suspected side effect, including an effect that is not listed in the official package leaflet.
What if too much Tyrosur Gel is applied?
No harmful consequences are expected after applying more gel than recommended. Continue treatment according to the usual instructions.
Contact a doctor if unusual symptoms or a pronounced local reaction develop.
What if an application is forgotten?
Continue treatment according to the usual schedule. Do not apply a double amount to make up for a missed application.
Stopping treatment
Stopping treatment too early may prevent the desired therapeutic effect from being achieved. Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are unsure how long the medicine should be used.
How should Tyrosur Gel be stored?
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store at a temperature of up to 25 °C.
- After first opening, the medicine may be used for up to six months.
- Close the tube firmly after each use.
- Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package and tube.
Do not dispose of unused medicines through wastewater or household waste. Return unused medicine to a pharmacy that collects pharmaceutical waste from members of the public.
