What is Peruvian Magic Maca and how are the capsules taken?

Peruvian Magic Maca from the Serbian brand Zdravo bilje (Dakar d.o.o.) is a food supplement in capsule form whose main ingredient is maca (Lepidium meyenii). Maca is a root vegetable similar to a turnip that grows in the Peruvian Andes at altitudes above 2,000 metres and has long been part of the traditional diet there.

The root is naturally rich in carbohydrates and also provides protein and dietary fibre. In capsule form, maca is a practical alternative to the powder, which is usually stirred into drinks, smoothies or yoghurt – the capsules are tasteless and easy to take on the go.

The pack contains 30 capsules. The manufacturer recommends 4–6 capsules a day, so one pack lasts about 5 to 7 days. The same product is also available in larger packs and as a powder.

Key benefits:

  • Maca (Lepidium meyenii), a root from the Peruvian Andes, in capsules.
  • A practical, tasteless alternative to maca powder.
  • Natural source of carbohydrates, protein and fibre.
  • Simple intake with meals.
  • Small pack of 30 capsules – suitable for trying the product.

How to use

Recommended use according to the manufacturer:

  • 4–6 capsules a day, before or during meals.
  • Do not take in uncontrolled amounts and do not exceed the recommended daily intake.

Who is it for?

The capsules are intended for adults who want to include maca in their diet in a convenient form. Pregnant women should not take the product, and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor first. Maca is a food supplement and does not replace a varied diet or the advice of a doctor.

Important notes

  • Not for pregnant women; if breastfeeding, consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
  • Do not use if you are hypersensitive to maca or other plants of the cabbage family.
  • If you have a thyroid disorder, take medication or have a chronic condition, consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
  • Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet. Store out of the reach of children.

Pharmacist's advice:

If you have never taken maca before, start with the lower amount of 4 capsules a day with breakfast or lunch and see how you tolerate it before moving to 6 capsules. Taking it with food is usually gentler on the stomach.

The 30-capsule pack lasts less than a week at the recommended amount, so it is best for trying the product. For regular use, a larger pack or the powder form is more economical – and if you take medication for the thyroid or hormonal conditions, talk to your doctor before adding maca.
