MODUXIN MR 35 mg is a prolonged-release medicine containing 35 mg of trimetazidine dihydrochloride per tablet. It is used in adults as add-on symptomatic treatment for stable angina when first-line antianginal treatment does not provide adequate control or is not tolerated.
Trimetazidine helps preserve energy metabolism in heart-muscle cells when the oxygen supply is reduced. It does not directly lower blood pressure and does not replace other coronary-heart-disease medicines prescribed by a cardiologist.
MODUXIN MR does not provide immediate relief from sudden chest pain and is not an initial treatment for unstable angina or myocardial infarction.
New, severe or persistent chest pain, breathing difficulty, cold sweating, nausea, weakness or pain spreading to an arm, the back, neck or jaw requires urgent medical assessment.
MODUXIN MR – uses, dosage and safety warnings
What is MODUXIN MR used for?
It is indicated only for adults as additional symptomatic treatment of stable angina:
- when first-line antianginal medicines do not adequately control symptoms;
- when the patient does not tolerate first-line treatment;
- as part of a treatment plan supervised by an internist or cardiologist.
Trimetazidine is not approved for treating vertigo, tinnitus or visual disturbances.
How is it taken?

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew or divide a prolonged-release tablet. Do not take a double dose after a missed dose.
When must it not be used?
- allergy to trimetazidine or an excipient;
- allergy to soya or peanuts because the medicine contains soya lecithin;
- Parkinson’s disease;
- parkinsonian symptoms, tremor, restless legs syndrome or another movement disorder;
- severe kidney impairment with creatinine clearance below 30 mL/min.
Use is not recommended in severe liver impairment because clinical experience is insufficient.
Movement disorders and falls
Trimetazidine may cause or aggravate tremor, stiffness, slowed movement, restless legs syndrome or an unstable gait. Contact the doctor promptly if these symptoms develop.
Dizziness, unstable gait and a fall in blood pressure when standing may increase the risk of falls, particularly in older patients and those using antihypertensive medicines.
Other medicines
No confirmed pharmacokinetic interactions are listed in the official product information. Nevertheless, tell the doctor and pharmacist about every medicine and supplement used.
MODUXIN MR does not replace nitrates, beta-blockers, calcium-channel blockers, antiplatelet medicines, anticoagulants or other coronary treatment prescribed by a cardiologist.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
As a precaution, trimetazidine should be avoided during pregnancy. It is not known whether trimetazidine or its metabolites pass into breast milk, so treatment during breastfeeding is not recommended.
Driving and machinery
Dizziness and drowsiness may occur. Do not drive or operate machinery if alertness, balance or reaction speed is affected.
Possible side effects
Common effects include dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, indigestion, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, itching, hives and weakness.
Rare effects include palpitations, extra heartbeats, rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure when standing, faintness, falls and facial flushing.
Movement disorders, sleep disturbance, vertigo, constipation, severe skin reactions, angioedema, reduced white blood cells or platelets and hepatitis have also been reported.
- new, severe or persistent chest pain;
- difficulty breathing, cold sweating or sudden weakness;
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat;
- a widespread blistering or peeling rash;
- new tremor, stiffness, slow movement or unstable walking;
- fainting or a markedly irregular heartbeat;
- yellow skin or eyes, dark urine or very pale stools;
- fever, repeated infections, bruising or unusual bleeding.

Storage
Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25°C in the original packaging to protect the tablets from moisture.
MODUXIN MR is a prescription-only medicine and cannot be ordered through the online shop. Check availability, price and reimbursement conditions directly with a pharmacy.
Take MODUXIN MR regularly in the morning and evening during meals unless the doctor has prescribed a reduced dose because of kidney function.
Report new tremor, stiffness, slowed movement, restless legs or unstable walking promptly. Do not stop other cardiovascular medicines because the chest discomfort has improved.
Coenzyme Q10 and omega-3 supplements are not substitutes for trimetazidine or prescribed coronary treatment. Their use should be checked against the complete cardiovascular treatment plan.

How often is it taken?

Is it used for vertigo or tinnitus?
No. Trimetazidine is no longer approved for those indications.
Can it be used in Parkinson’s disease?
No. Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders are contraindications.
Can the tablet be divided?
The prolonged-release tablet should be swallowed whole.

For goods ordered up to 5.000,00 RSD, delivery charge is 260.00 RSD (VAT included). For goods over 5.000,00 RSD, shipping is free of charge.
