The main mistake is starting Inofem Activ simply because the menstrual cycle is irregular without first investigating the cause. Irregular cycles may be associated with PCOS, thyroid disorders, elevated prolactin, weight changes, stress or other conditions requiring different management.

One sachet provides 200 µg of folates, so it should not automatically be presented as the only preconception supplement. Most women trying to conceive are advised to take 400 µg of folic acid daily, although an individualised dose may be required in diabetes, obesity, malabsorption, antiepileptic treatment or a previous pregnancy affected by a neural-tube defect.

When a prenatal multivitamin is already being used, review the total intake of folates and check for duplication of inositol, vitamin D, iodine, iron and other nutrients. In PCOS, supplementation does not replace diet, physical activity, weight management or prescribed medical treatment.
