  • Treatment should not last longer than 7 days; if there is no improvement, the cause of the symptoms should be investigated.

The leaflet mentions that a separate form – Hepathrombin H suppositories – may also be used for internal haemorrhoids; it has its own dosing and is not covered on this page.

Pharmacist's advice

Apply the ointment after a bowel movement, as the leaflet states; for internal haemorrhoids use the supplied applicator. An opened tube can be used for 28 days – write the opening date on the pack.

The medicine contains a corticosteroid, so do not use it for longer than 7 days and do not combine it with other rectal products. If there is no improvement after 7 days or you notice blood in your stools, see a doctor to find the cause.
