What does Fructus Fitness Plus tea contain and how do you use it safely?

Fructus Fitness Plus is a blend of green and herbal tea from the Serbian manufacturer Fructus, declared as a food supplement. The pack contains 25 filter bags of 2 g (50 g).

The blend contains nine plants. The largest shares are green tea leaf (20%), restharrow root (18.8%) and hibiscus flower (15%), and it is important to know that it also contains senna leaf (8.7%) and alder buckthorn bark (7.5%) – plants known for their laxative action.

The tea belongs to a group of products used alongside a weight-management programme, but it should not be seen as a slimming product: it does not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Because of the senna and buckthorn it is intended for short-term use only – according to the manufacturer, for 1 to 2 weeks at most.

Senna leaf and alder buckthorn bark contain anthranoid (anthraquinone) glycosides, which stimulate bowel movement and have a laxative effect. Green tea leaf naturally contains caffeine, so this blend is not caffeine-free.

How to use

Manufacturer’s directions:

• Pour 200 ml of boiling water over one filter bag and cover the cup.
• Remove the bag after 8–10 minutes.
• Drink one cup of the freshly prepared, unsweetened infusion in the evening, about half an hour before bedtime.
• Do not use for longer than 1–2 weeks and do not exceed the recommended daily amount.

Who is it for?

The tea is intended for adults who want to use it for a short period alongside a balanced diet and physical activity. It is not recommended for children under 12, pregnant women or breastfeeding women.

• Do not use in case of sensitivity to plant ingredients, kidney disease, intestinal obstruction or narrowing, intestinal atony, appendicitis, inflammatory bowel disease, abdominal pain of unknown cause or severe dehydration with loss of fluid and electrolytes.
• If you take cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmics, medicines that prolong the QT interval, diuretics or corticosteroids, consult a doctor before use.
• Stop use if gastrointestinal complaints occur; if needed, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
• Do not use for longer than 1–2 weeks – long-term use of laxative plants can disturb normal bowel function and the balance of fluids and electrolytes.
• Store at room temperature, out of the reach of children.
