Vitamin E – Capsules and Tablets
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. It occurs naturally in vegetable oils, nuts and seeds, and in supplements is most often found as alpha-tocopherol in soft gel capsules.
This category is part of Vitamins and minerals. Products differ mainly in dose and in the form of vitamin E.

How to take vitamin E
- With a meal containing fat – this is how it is best absorbed
- Check whether you already get vitamin E from a multivitamin
- For facial skin, choose cosmetics with vitamin E; capsules are intended for oral use
- Do not take high doses long-term without professional advice
When to take care
- with blood thinners (e.g. warfarin) and antiplatelet medicines
- before surgery – tell your doctor you take vitamin E
- with blood clotting disorders or vitamin K deficiency
Pharmacist’s adviceFor most people, 100 to 200 IU is enough as a dietary supplement. If you take a multivitamin, add up the vitamin E from both products. Take the capsule with a meal that includes oil, eggs or nuts – without fat, vitamin E is poorly used. |

Doses up to 200 IU are usually taken longer; higher doses for shorter periods and on professional advice.
