Why does the TIPS Diabetic insole have a PLASTAZOTE® top layer and who is it for?

TIPS Diabetic is a shoe insole made by the Croatian company TIPS from Split, which specialises in insoles and footwear accessories. The manufacturer describes it as an insole for sensitive feet, designed to give the foot comfort and protection throughout the day while wearing shoes.

The insole has two layers. The top layer, which is in direct contact with the foot or sock, is made of PLASTAZOTE® – a foam that, according to the manufacturer, is used in medicine and orthopaedics, especially for people with diabetes, because it prevents friction and skin irritation. The bottom layer cushions impact when walking and distributes pressure across the entire surface of the insole.

The material's structure of interconnected cells lets air circulate in both directions and absorbs and evaporates moisture well, so the foot stays dry more easily. The insole can be trimmed to the right length.

Key benefits:

  • PLASTAZOTE® top layer that reduces friction and skin irritation.
  • Bottom layer cushions impact and spreads pressure over the whole sole of the foot.
  • Cell structure lets air pass through in both directions.
  • Absorbs and evaporates moisture, so feet stay dry.
  • Can be trimmed to fit the shoe; made in two sizes.

How to use

Take the existing insole out of the shoe and lay it on the TIPS Diabetic insole as a template. If necessary, trim the front part along the outline with scissors, a little at a time, until the insole lies flat without creasing at the toes or heel. Place the insole so that the PLASTAZOTE® top layer faces the foot.

After wearing, take the insole out of the shoe so it can air and dry. Before putting it back, check that there are no small objects or creases in it.

Who is it for?

The insole is intended for people with sensitive feet who are bothered by friction inside their shoes, and for people with diabetes looking for a softer layer between the foot and the sole of the shoe. It also suits those who stand or walk for long periods and want their feet to stay dry.

Important notes

  • The insole is a comfort accessory; it does not replace a custom-made orthopaedic insole or a medical examination.
  • People with diabetes should inspect their feet every day – especially when they start wearing a new insole or new shoes.
  • Wounds, blisters, redness or a change in skin colour on the foot are a reason to see a doctor without delay.

Pharmacist's advice:

With diabetes, sensation in the feet may be reduced, so a chafed spot does not necessarily hurt. Wear a new insole for shorter periods during the first days, and in the evening check your soles, toes and heels – using a mirror or with the help of a family member if needed.

The insole takes up some space in the shoe: if the shoe feels tight after fitting it or your toes touch the front of the shoe, choose wider or larger footwear instead of letting the foot bear the pressure.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

1. What is PLASTAZOTE® and why does it matter in this insole?

It is the material of the insole's top layer. According to the manufacturer, it is used in medicine and orthopaedics, especially for people with diabetes, because it prevents friction and skin irritation.

2. Can the insole be shortened?

Yes, the manufacturer states that the insole can be cut to the appropriate size. The easiest way is to use the insole that came with your shoes as a template.

3. Which sizes are available?

TIPS makes it in two sizes – the smaller one covers shoe sizes 35–40 and the larger one is for bigger shoe sizes. When buying, choose the range that matches your shoe size.

4. Does the insole replace special footwear for the diabetic foot?

No. It is a comfort insole for everyday shoes. If your doctor recommends special footwear or a custom-made insole, follow that recommendation.
