Skin - page 3

Skin – products for acne, eczema, burns, wounds and damaged skin in one place. This ApotekaOnline category brings together products for skin care when a specific problem appears: pimples and blackheads, dry and irritated skin prone to eczema or psoriasis, burns, scrapes and superficial wounds, chafing, cold sores on the lips, scars, warts and depigmented patches in vitiligo.

Unlike everyday cosmetics, the products here are grouped according to the condition of the skin – for soothing, protection, care of a damaged skin barrier and support of the skin’s natural renewal. Each subcategory has its own guide with advice on choosing and using products, and below you will find an overview of all nine groups for a clearer picture.

If you are looking for everyday face, body and hand care (moisturisers, lotions, hand creams, facial cleansing), please see the Online cosmetics category.

Subcategories within the Skin category

The table lists all subcategories with a short description of their purpose. Click a name to open the product selection and a more detailed guide.

Subcategory What is it used for?
Acne, pimples and blackheads Care for oily, combination and problem skin prone to clogged pores, pimples and blackheads.
Eczema and psoriasis Emollient care for dry, thickened, irritated and atopic skin, to help preserve the protective barrier.
Burns Products for cooling, soothing and protecting the skin after minor burns from the sun, heat or hot water.
Superficial wounds Sprays, powders, creams and plasters for cleansing, protecting and caring for scrapes, cuts and grazes.
Chafing and diaper rash Protective creams and pastes for skin exposed to friction and moisture – in babies (diaper area) and adults.
Herpes (cold sores) Products for caring for the lips and skin where blisters and sores appear, with protection while they heal.
Scars Silicone gels, patches and creams for caring for, softening and evening out the appearance of scars.
Warts and condylomas Products for local application to skin lesions, following the manufacturer’s instructions and after a doctor’s assessment.
Vitiligo Care for depigmented skin, sun protection and products for a more even-looking skin tone.

Acne and blemish-prone skin

For acne-prone skin, a consistent routine matters most: gentle cleansing, targeted care for imperfections, light hydration that does not clog pores and daily SPF protection. Aggressive drying often increases redness and peeling, making the skin even more reactive. In the acne, pimples and blackheads category you will find gels, creams, lotions and patches for local care, as well as moisturising products that help the skin tolerate anti-acne treatments better.

Marks left after pimples require patience and sun protection; for deeper and more pronounced scars, please also see the scars subcategory.

Eczema, psoriasis and vitiligo – chronic skin conditions

Eczema (atopic dermatitis), psoriasis and vitiligo are long-term conditions for which diagnosis and therapy are determined by a doctor or dermatologist. The role of pharmacy products is to support everyday care: keeping the skin hydrated, protected and less prone to tightness, flaking and itching.

  • Eczema and psoriasis – emollients, balms, bath oils and mild cleansers that do not disrupt the skin’s protective barrier
  • Vitiligo – care for depigmented areas, high sun protection and products that help achieve a more even-looking skin tone
  • regular care even when the skin looks calm, because this makes the barrier easier to maintain
  • choose fragrance-free products for sensitive and reactive skin

Burns, wounds, chafing and scars – injured and damaged skin

When the skin is mechanically or thermally damaged, the goal is to clean it, protect it from further friction and dirt and provide a moist, protected environment for natural renewal. These four subcategories follow the skin from the moment of injury to later scar care:

  • Burns – cooling and soothing the skin after minor burns from the sun, ironing or hot water
  • Superficial wounds – products for cleansing and protecting scrapes, cuts and grazes at home
  • Chafing and diaper rash – protective zinc creams and barrier products for the diaper area, skin folds and skin exposed to sweat and friction
  • Scars – silicone care and massage once the wound has fully closed, together with protecting the scar from the sun

Herpes and warts – viral skin changes

Cold sores on the lips and warts are caused by viruses, so hygiene is especially important: do not touch the lesions and do not share towels, lip balms or shaving equipment. The herpes subcategory contains products for caring for the lips and skin while blisters and sores are present, and the warts and condylomas subcategory offers products for local application to skin lesions.

Condylomas (genital warts) always require an examination by a doctor – a gynaecologist, urologist or dermatologist – before any products are used on your own.

How to choose the right skin product?

  • identify the problem – blemishes, dryness and itching, an injury, friction or a skin lesion
  • read the manufacturer’s instructions and check which body area and age group the product is intended for
  • apply fewer products at the same time to damaged and sensitive skin
  • with a new product, do a patch test on a small area of skin first
  • for children, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses, ask a pharmacist or doctor for advice

When should you see a doctor?

The products in this category are intended for skin care and protection and do not replace a medical examination. Please consult a doctor or dermatologist:

  • if a burn is larger than the palm of your hand, has large blisters or is on the face, hands, feet or genital area
  • if a wound is deep, bleeds heavily, is contaminated or was caused by a bite
  • if signs of infection appear: increasing pain, swelling, warmth, pus or a fever
  • if eczema, psoriasis or chafing spreads or does not improve despite regular care
  • if a new skin lesion appears, a mole changes its appearance or a lesion bleeds
  • in the case of condylomas, and with cold sores that recur often or appear in a baby

Pharmacist’s advice

With damaged or irritated skin, less is often more. Instead of applying several different products at once, choose one product intended for the specific problem, use it regularly according to the instructions and watch how your skin responds.

The skin’s protective barrier renews slowly – with eczema, chafing and scars, results come from consistency, not from the strength of the product. If your skin does not improve or gets worse, do not postpone a visit to a dermatologist.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between the Skin category and Online cosmetics?
The Skin category brings together products for specific skin problems and conditions – acne, eczema, burns, wounds, chafing, cold sores, scars, warts and vitiligo. For everyday face, body and hand care, please see Online cosmetics.

What should I put on a minor burn?
First cool the skin under lukewarm running water for 10–20 minutes, then apply a product for soothing and protecting burned skin. Do not use ice, oil or toothpaste. For larger burns and blisters, contact a doctor.

How can I protect my baby’s skin from diaper rash?
Change diapers regularly, gently clean and dry the skin, then apply a thin layer of protective cream or paste. If the redness lasts longer than a few days or sores appear, ask a paediatrician for advice.

When should I start caring for a scar?
Scar care begins only once the wound has fully closed and there are no scabs. Silicone gels and patches are used regularly for several weeks, together with protecting the scar from the sun.
