Zorac 0.05% gel contains the active substance tazarotene, a topical retinoid used for mild to moderate chronic plaque psoriasis in adults.
The medicine is intended for limited psoriatic plaques affecting no more than approximately 10% of the total body surface. It is not a routine cosmetic product and should be used only after the skin condition has been medically assessed.

What is Zorac used for and how is it applied?
Zorac is used for mild to moderate chronic plaque psoriasis affecting limited areas of the trunk or limbs and no more than approximately 10% of the body surface.
The indication identified for the Serbian Zorac product is plaque psoriasis. Acne should not be presented as an approved indication on this particular product page.
- Apply once daily, usually in the evening.
- Apply a very thin layer only to the psoriatic plaque.
- Avoid surrounding healthy skin.
- Allow the skin to dry completely after washing.
- Wash hands after application unless the hands are being treated.
- Do not apply more frequently than prescribed.
Treatment commonly lasts up to 12 weeks. The dermatologist determines the duration according to response and skin tolerance.
A neutral emollient may be applied at least one hour before or one hour after Zorac. It should be fully absorbed before the medicine is applied.
Zorac must not be used during pregnancy or by women planning pregnancy.
Women who may become pregnant should use reliable contraception. The doctor may require a negative pregnancy test before treatment begins.
If pregnancy occurs, stop treatment immediately and contact the doctor.
Do not apply Zorac:
- during pregnancy, while planning pregnancy or during breastfeeding;
- in patients under 18 years of age;
- to the face, eyelids, lips or scalp;
- to skin folds such as the armpits or groin;
- to healthy, eczematous, inflamed, damaged or infected skin;
- under an occlusive dressing;
- for pustular or exfoliative psoriasis.
Sun and ultraviolet exposure
Avoid excessive sunlight, sunbeds, PUVA and UVB treatment. Use protective clothing and appropriate sun protection when exposure cannot be avoided.
Additional caution is required with photosensitising medicines such as certain tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, thiazides, sulphonamides and phenothiazines.
Possible side effects
- itching, burning and stinging;
- redness and irritation;
- dryness and tightness;
- scaling or peeling;
- irritant contact dermatitis;
- skin tenderness or pain;
- temporary worsening of psoriasis;
- changes in skin pigmentation.
- severe swelling, blistering, sores or pain;
- redness spreading beyond the treated plaque;
- signs of infection;
- a severe reaction after sun exposure;
- rapid worsening of psoriasis;
- pregnancy during treatment.
Storage
- Store below 30°C.
- Keep the tube tightly closed.
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
- Use within six months of first opening.
Apply only a very thin layer directly to the plaque. Accidental application to healthy surrounding skin is a common cause of marked burning and redness.
Leave at least one hour between Zorac and an emollient or cosmetic product.
Avoid hot water, scrubs, harsh soaps and vigorous towel drying. The treated skin is more sensitive to irritation and ultraviolet radiation.
