Rapten-K 50 mg is a prescription medicine containing diclofenac potassium. It belongs to a group of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – NSAIDs, which reduce pain, swelling and inflammation. Diclofenac potassium has a relatively rapid onset of action and is therefore primarily used for acute painful and inflammatory conditions.
Rapten-K is available only with a medical prescription. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest period required to control symptoms. Do not combine it on your own with ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin, ketoprofen, another diclofenac product or another NSAID.

What is Rapten-K used for?
Rapten-K is used to reduce pain, swelling and inflammation associated with:
- rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, acute gout and ankylosing spondylitis;
- lower-back pain;
- acute migraine attacks in adults;
- sprains, strains, dislocations and sports-related soft-tissue injuries;
- pain associated with fractures;
- frozen shoulder;
- tendinitis, tenosynovitis and bursitis;
- pyrophosphate arthropathy and related disorders;
- pain and inflammation following orthopaedic, dental and other minor surgical procedures.
Rapten-K controls symptoms but does not treat the underlying cause of arthritis, migraine, injury or another condition. Severe, recurrent or prolonged pain requires medical assessment.
How is Rapten-K taken?
The doctor determines the dose and treatment duration according to the cause and severity of pain, age, other medical conditions and medicines being used.
Usual adult dosage:
- 100–150 mg daily, divided into two or three individual doses;
- 75–100 mg daily in two or three doses may be sufficient for milder conditions;
- Rapten-K 50 mg tablets cannot be divided, so a 75 mg dose cannot be obtained by splitting this tablet.
For an acute migraine attack in adults:
- take one 50 mg tablet when the first symptoms develop;
- if pain relief is insufficient after two hours, another 50 mg tablet may be taken;
- further 50 mg doses may be taken at intervals of four to six hours when required;
- the total migraine dose must not exceed 200 mg in 24 hours.
For adolescents over 14 years, the official leaflet states 75–100 mg daily in two or three divided doses. Rapten-K is not recommended for children under 14 years, and diclofenac potassium has not been studied for paediatric migraine.
Take the tablet with or after a meal and swallow it whole with sufficient liquid. Do not break or chew the tablet.
Who must not take Rapten-K?
- people allergic to diclofenac or another ingredient;
- people who developed asthma, breathing difficulty, rhinitis, hives or swelling after aspirin, ibuprofen or another NSAID;
- patients with an active stomach or duodenal ulcer;
- patients with recurrent peptic ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding;
- patients with previous NSAID-related gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation;
- patients with severe heart, kidney or liver failure;
- patients with established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease or cerebrovascular disease;
- women during the last three months of pregnancy.
The medicine contains sucrose and the azo colour Cochenillerotlack E124, which may cause allergic reactions. Patients with certain inherited disorders affecting sugar metabolism must not take it without medical assessment.
Important precautions
Additional caution is required in older patients and people with a history of:
- high blood pressure, fluid retention or heart failure;
- kidney or liver disease;
- ulcers, gastritis, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis;
- asthma, hay fever or nasal polyps;
- bleeding or blood-clotting disorders;
- systemic lupus erythematosus or another connective-tissue disorder;
- recent stomach or intestinal surgery;
- major cardiovascular risk factors, including diabetes, smoking, high cholesterol and hypertension.
Diclofenac may mask fever, headache and other signs of infection. Tell the doctor that Rapten-K is being used if infection symptoms persist or worsen.
The risk of heart attack and stroke increases with higher doses and longer treatment, particularly with prolonged use of 150 mg daily.
Interactions with other medicines
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you use:
- aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen or another NSAID;
- anticoagulants such as warfarin or antiplatelet medicines;
- corticosteroids;
- SSRI antidepressants;
- diuretics, ACE inhibitors, beta blockers or other blood-pressure medicines;
- lithium;
- digoxin or another cardiac glycoside;
- methotrexate;
- ciclosporin or tacrolimus;
- trimethoprim;
- quinolone antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin;
- phenytoin;
- voriconazole;
- medicines for diabetes;
- colestipol or cholestyramine;
- mifepristone.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
During pregnancy, Rapten-K should be used only when the doctor considers treatment necessary. Use the lowest possible dose for the shortest possible period.
Rapten-K must not be used during the final three months of pregnancy, because it may affect the unborn baby’s heart, lungs and kidneys, prolong bleeding and delay or prolong labour.
Diclofenac passes into breast milk in small amounts, so Rapten-K should not be used while breastfeeding.
Diclofenac may temporarily reduce female fertility. Women planning a pregnancy or experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant should consult their doctor.
Possible side effects
Common side effects may include:
- abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea;
- indigestion, flatulence and loss of appetite;
- headache, dizziness or vertigo;
- rash;
- increased liver-enzyme levels.
Less common or rare effects include stomach or intestinal ulcers and bleeding, drowsiness, fatigue, hives, oedema, liver dysfunction, asthma, high blood pressure, kidney disorders, changes in blood-cell counts and serious skin reactions.
- black stools, blood in the stools or vomiting blood;
- severe or sudden abdominal pain;
- difficulty breathing, wheezing or an asthma attack;
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue, hands or throat;
- a severe rash, blistering or peeling skin;
- yellowing of the skin or eyes;
- a sudden change in the amount or appearance of urine;
- chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath or cold sweats;
- sudden weakness on one side of the body or disturbed speech or vision;
- a stiff neck, high temperature, severe headache and sensitivity to light.
Driving and using machines
Do not drive or operate machinery if dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, blurred vision, double vision or another central nervous system effect occurs.
Overdose and missed dose
An overdose may cause headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, diarrhoea, dizziness, disorientation, drowsiness, tinnitus, loss of consciousness or seizures. Severe poisoning may cause acute kidney or liver injury.
Contact a doctor or emergency department immediately if too much medicine has been taken and bring the original packaging.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed tablet. Take the missed dose when remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose.
A common mistake is to add another medicine from the same group when pain does not improve quickly enough. Do not combine Rapten-K with ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, analgesic doses of aspirin or another oral diclofenac product without medical approval. Such combinations generally do not produce proportionally greater pain relief, but substantially increase the risk of ulcers, bleeding, kidney injury and cardiovascular complications.

Composition, appearance and packaging
Each coated tablet contains 50 mg of diclofenac potassium.
The tablet core contains anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, anhydrous calcium hydrogen phosphate, maize starch, povidone K-30, magnesium stearate and sodium carboxymethyl starch.
The coating contains acacia, sucrose, talc, Cochenillerotlack E124, povidone K-25 and macrogol 6000.
The tablets are round and red. The pack contains one blister with 10 coated tablets.

Frequently asked questions
Is Rapten-K the same as ordinary diclofenac?
Rapten-K contains diclofenac potassium, which is used when a rapid onset of action is desirable. Other diclofenac medicines may contain diclofenac sodium or have modified release and must not be exchanged without professional advice.
Should Rapten-K be taken before or after food?
Take the tablet with or after a meal and swallow it with sufficient water.
Can the tablet be divided?
No. Swallow the tablet whole without breaking or chewing it.
Can Rapten-K be taken with ibuprofen?
Not unless specifically instructed by a doctor. Both medicines are NSAIDs and combining them increases the risk of serious adverse effects.
Can Rapten-K be used for migraine?
Yes, for acute migraine attacks in adults. The prescribed dosing intervals and maximum daily dose must be followed.
