What can the Pino hourglass be used for?

The Pino hourglass (Serbian „Peščani sat“, item number 8613) is a sand timer from the Serbian toy brand Pino. According to the retailer's declaration it is made of wood, glass, plastic and glue and measures 10.5 x 17.5 x 2.5 cm.

In the Pino catalogue for 2020 the 8613 hourglass is listed with a running time of 15 seconds. Pino's own product text names several uses: for all games that require measuring time, for board-game fans who need a timer, for showing children how time used to be measured, for simply watching the sand run through – and as a decorative object.

The Pino hourglass is made in China and imported into Serbia by JAMAX M d.o.o. Čačak.

Key benefits:

Sand timer of the Pino hourglass 8613 with a 15-second running time, per the Pino catalogue.
Wooden frame with glass and plastic parts, 10.5 x 17.5 x 2.5 cm.
Useful as a turn timer in board games and quiz games.
A simple way to show children how time was measured before clocks with dials.
Pino also describes it as a decorative object for a child's room or desk.

Use and care

Turn the Pino hourglass over at the start of a turn and stand it upright on a flat, stable surface; the turn ends when all the sand has run into the lower bulb.

For younger players the 8613 timer can be turned over twice to give them more time; for quick rounds a single run of the sand is enough.

Wipe the wooden frame with a dry or slightly damp cloth only; do not wash the hourglass or leave it in water.

Who is it for?

The Pino hourglass 8613 suits families who play board games, and children who are learning to wait for their turn; the retailer gives 6+ in one field and 3+ in another, so check the age on the box.

Important notes

The Pino hourglass contains glass – do not let children throw it or knock it on hard surfaces, and stop using it if the glass is cracked.
The running time of 15 seconds comes from the Pino 2020 catalogue; the retailer page for 8613 does not state it.

Pharmacist's advice:

Because the Pino hourglass has a glass part, I advise keeping it out of reach of toddlers and handing it to the child only for the game, under an adult's eye; a 15-second timer is also a calm way to practise waiting, for example while brushing teeth or tidying up.
