Saw palmetto – Serenoa repens is a palm species native to the southeastern United States. Its small, dark fruits are used to prepare botanical extracts found in dietary supplements.

Do not compare saw palmetto supplements using milligrams alone. Some products declare a standardized fatty-acid and sterol content, whereas the current OstroVit specification does not state such a standardization.

Also note the dosing distinction: the container has 360 individual one-tablet servings, but the manufacturer recommends two tablets per day. The package therefore lasts approximately six months at the recommended intake.

New or significant urinary difficulties, blood in the urine, pain, fever or inability to urinate require medical assessment. A botanical supplement should not delay investigation of the cause.
