Nimulid 100 mg tablets contain nimesulide, a medicine from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic drugs (NSAIDs, ATC M01AX17). It is used for short-term treatment of acute pain and primary dysmenorrhoea – painful periods that are not caused by disease but by natural processes in the body.

Nimesulide is prescribed only as second-line treatment, after the doctor has assessed the overall risk for each patient, because it can damage the liver. The medicine is taken for as short a time as possible and for no more than 15 days per treatment course.

Important warning

  • Nimulid is a prescription-only medicine in Serbia and is prescribed as second-line treatment.
  • Do not take it for more than 15 days in one course; use the lowest dose that controls the symptoms.
  • It must not be combined with paracetamol, other NSAIDs or other medicines that affect the liver, and alcohol should not be drunk during treatment.
  • If you develop symptoms of liver damage (loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, tiredness, dark urine, jaundice) or fever and flu-like symptoms, stop treatment and contact your doctor.
  • It must not be used in children under 12 years, in the third trimester of pregnancy or during breast-feeding.
  • Read the package leaflet before use. This page is for information only and is not an offer to buy the medicine online.

Nimesulide should be prescribed only as second-line treatment; the decision is based on an assessment of the overall risk for each individual patient.

How is Nimulid taken and dosed?

Take the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. According to the leaflet:

  • Adults: 1 tablet (100 mg) twice daily, after meals.
  • Adolescents aged 12 to 18 years: no dose adjustment is needed.

  • Older people: no need to reduce the daily dose, but the doctor periodically checks that the medicine is not causing stomach, kidney, heart or liver problems.

Pharmacist's advice

Nimesulide is a medicine for short-term use: take it after meals, twice daily, for as short a time as necessary and never longer than 15 days in one course. If the pain does not go away, see your doctor instead of extending treatment yourself.

Protecting the liver is the key point: during treatment do not drink alcohol and do not take paracetamol or other painkillers (including combination cold and flu products – check the ingredients). Nimulid is not taken in case of fever or flu-like symptoms. Nimulid and Nimulid-MD contain the same active substance – never combine them.
