NATRII CHLORIDI INFUNDIBILE

Natrii chloridi infundibile compositum is an isotonic solution for intravenous infusion containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride and calcium chloride. This solution is clear, colorless and available in 500 mL plastic bottles. Its osmolarity is approximately 309 mOsm/L, making it isotonic to human blood.

The drug is used for fluid and electrolyte replacement in isotonic and hypovolemic dehydration, correction of hyponatremia (lack of sodium in the blood), metabolic alkalosis with hypochloremia, short-term intravascular volume replacement (eg in shock, collapse, burns) and dilution or dissolution of compatible drugs and electrolyte concentrates.

The dose and rate of infusion depend on the patient's condition, body weight and clinical condition. The recommended doses are: for adults, the elderly and adolescents 500 mL to 3 L in a period of 24 hours; for infants and children 20 mL to 100 mL/kg of body weight in 24 hours. The infusion rate is usually 40 mL/kg/24 h in adults, the elderly, and adolescents. For infants, the infusion rate is 6–8 mL/kg/h, while for young children it is 4–6 mL/kg/h. School-aged children usually receive 2–4 mL/kg/h.

Before and during the administration of the drug, it may be necessary to monitor the fluid balance, serum electrolyte concentration and acid-base balance, with special attention to the serum sodium concentration in patients with increased non-osmotic release of vasopressin (syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion, SIADH) and in patients who simultaneously administer vasopressin agonists, due to the risk of hospital-acquired hyponatremia.

Like all medicines, this solution can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Possible adverse reactions include: involuntary shaking (tremor), decreased blood pressure, hives (urticaria), skin rash, itching (pruritus), hyponatremia (low sodium level in the blood), hyperhydration (fluid retention in the body), electrolyte disturbances, increased body temperature, infection and pain at the application site, vein irritation, venous thrombosis or phlebitis, extravasation (leakage of solution from the vein into surrounding tissues). If any of these reactions are observed, the infusion should be stopped immediately. It is important that the doctor monitors the patient during the administration of this medicine.

Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use the medicine after the expiration date indicated on the bottle. Store at a temperature of up to 25°C. After opening, the solution must be used immediately. Unusable medicines are handed over to the pharmacy, which has a notice that the pharmacy collects unusable medicines from citizens.

This medicine is used exclusively in healthcare facilities under the supervision of qualified medical personnel. Self-administration is not recommended. Always consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
