Mycofin 10 mg/g skin spray, solution is a topical antifungal medicine containing terbinafine hydrochloride. It is used in adults and adolescents over 16 years for selected fungal infections affecting the feet and groin.

Important warning
Mycofin is for external use on the skin only. Do not spray it on the face, into the eyes or mouth and avoid inhaling the spray.

It does not adequately treat fungal infection inside the nail plate. A discoloured, thickened or damaged nail should be assessed before treatment is selected.

Mycofin skin spray – uses, dosage and precautions

What is Mycofin used for?

  • Athlete’s foot – tinea pedis, including infection between the toes or on other areas of the feet.
  • Tinea cruris, a fungal infection affecting the groin and inner thighs.

The approved indications do not include fungal infection of the nails, scalp or mouth, or vaginal candidiasis.

How is the spray applied?

Apply once daily for seven days.

  1. Wash the affected skin with soap.
  2. Dry it completely, particularly between the toes and in skin folds.
  3. On first use, press the pump several times until an even spray is produced.
  4. Hold the bottle approximately 5–10 cm from the skin.
  5. Spray enough solution to make the affected skin and immediate surrounding area moist.
  6. Replace the cap and wash the hands.

Treated skin between the toes or in the groin fold may be covered with clean, thin gauze, particularly at night.

Skin recovery may continue for up to four weeks even though the medicine is applied for only seven days.

Consult a doctor or pharmacist if no improvement is seen two weeks after treatment was started or if the condition becomes worse.

Children and adolescents

Mycofin must not be used in children under 16 years because clinical experience is limited.

Important precautions

  • For external use only.
  • Do not apply to the face.
  • Avoid the eyes, mouth and inhalation.
  • Alcohol in the solution may sting damaged or cracked skin.
  • Do not automatically apply another medicine or cosmetic product to the treated area.

If the spray enters the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. Seek medical advice if irritation continues.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Use during pregnancy is recommended only when considered genuinely necessary by a healthcare professional.

Mycofin must not be used while breastfeeding. The infant must not come into contact with treated skin, including the breasts.

Possible side effects

Common local effects include peeling and itching.

Redness, burning, crusting, skin-colour changes, pain or irritation at the application site may occur occasionally.

Dry skin, contact dermatitis, eczema, eye irritation and worsening of the infection are rare.

Stop application and seek urgent medical help for:
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing;
  • swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue or throat;
  • severe itching with a widespread red rash;
  • hives or blistering skin;
  • marked worsening of the skin reaction.

Accidental ingestion

If the solution is swallowed accidentally, contact a doctor or emergency service. Possible symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness and abdominal pain. The solution also contains alcohol.

Pharmacist’s advice
Dry the feet carefully, particularly between the toes, before every application. Apply the spray for the complete seven-day course even when itching and redness improve earlier.

Change socks every day, use a separate towel and allow footwear to dry fully. Do not spray Mycofin inside shoes unless a product is specifically intended for footwear.

Seek medical advice before self-treatment if you have diabetes, impaired circulation, painful cracks, discharge or repeated infections.
