Nerve Support – Alpha-Lipoic Acid, B Vitamins and PEA - page 2
Tingling, pins and needles, burning or pain in the feet and hands, and pain radiating down the leg with sciatica, are often linked to the peripheral nerves. The causes – from diabetes and nerve compression to vitamin B12 deficiency – are determined by a doctor.
This category is part of Nervous system products and brings together food supplements most often taken on medical advice in these situations.

How to choose and take them
- Check the composition – many combinations already contain ALA and B vitamins, so they need not be taken separately
- Alpha-lipoic acid is usually taken half an hour before a meal
- These products are taken for several weeks; do not expect an immediate effect
- Do not take high doses of vitamin B6 long-term – too much B6 can itself cause tingling
When a doctor is needed
- sudden weakness in an arm or leg, facial numbness or speech problems – urgently
- loss of bladder or bowel control with back pain – urgently
- with diabetes: any sore or change in colour on the foot
- if you take diabetes medication – ALA may affect blood sugar, so measure it more often
Pharmacist’s adviceWith tingling and burning in the feet, finding the cause comes first, because with diabetes or B12 deficiency the underlying problem must also be treated. Products in this category complement the treatment set by your doctor. If you take several products, add up the B6 from all of them – it is often found in magnesium and multivitamins too. |
