When is the Bort PostOban chest and abdominal support worn and how is it put on correctly?

The Bort PostOban chest and abdominal support (original name: BORT PostOban Thorax-Abdominal-Stütze, REF 104 150) is a medical aid made by the German manufacturer Bort GmbH. According to the manufacturer's instructions, it is a circumferential compression support with closures that stabilises the chest and abdominal area.

The support wraps around the torso and is closed at the front using two closure plates: both halves are pulled forward evenly, and the right half is fastened over the left with Velcro. This way the level of compression can be adjusted to body circumference and current needs – for example as post-operative swelling goes down.

The manufacturer intends it mainly for recovery after surgery on the abdomen or chest, and for weak abdominal connective tissue and a slack (pendulous) abdomen. The support is made in several sizes by waist circumference and in two heights (21 and 26 cm).

How to use

Putting it on according to the manufacturer's instructions:

  • Wrap the support around your torso.
  • Grip both closure plates and pull the support forward evenly.
  • Press the left half of the closure against your body.
  • Pull the right half far enough to fasten it over the left half with Velcro.
  • To remove, open both halves of the closure and take the support off.

Who is it for?

According to the manufacturer, the support is intended for the period after abdominal or chest surgery, for weak abdominal connective tissue and for a slack abdomen. The Austrian version of the instructions also lists abdominal wall hernias that cannot be operated on, as well as wear before surgery for large hernias and for one to three months after surgery. The surgeon decides when to start and how long to wear it after an operation.

Important notes

  • Do not use with lymphatic drainage disorders, unexplained soft-tissue swelling, sensory or circulatory disorders or skin diseases in the area where it is worn.
  • Do not wear directly over an open wound – after surgery the support is worn over the dressed incision, as instructed by the doctor.
  • Remove before X-ray examinations; if night-time wear is prescribed, the support must not impair circulation.
  • If numbness occurs, loosen or remove the support; if complaints persist, see a doctor.
  • Do not apply creams or ointments under the support; the product is intended for one person only.

Pharmacist's advice:

After surgery the support should fit firmly but not constrict: you must be able to breathe normally and deeply, and no folds should form under the support that press on the incision. Choose the size by your waist circumference measured before the operation, and if you are between two sizes, ask a pharmacist or your surgeon.

As the swelling goes down, re-tighten the support with the Velcro from time to time. If redness, oozing or increasing pain appears in the incision area under the support, or you develop a fever, do not simply tighten it further – see a doctor.

1. How long is the support worn after surgery?

The wearing period is decided by the doctor. The Austrian version of the manufacturer's instructions mentions one to three months after surgery for abdominal wall hernias.

2. How do I choose the size?

The size is chosen by waist circumference: from size 1 (75–85 cm) to size 7 (135–145 cm), in 10 cm steps. The support is also made in heights of 21 and 26 cm.

3. Can the support be worn at night?

Only if prescribed by a doctor. In that case, make sure it does not impair circulation, and loosen or remove it if numbness occurs.

4. How do I care for the support?

Wash on a gentle cycle with the Velcro closed, without fabric softener; do not dry clean, bleach, tumble dry or iron. Reshape and air dry.

When picking up the product, the customer is required to sign the delivery note taken by the Daily Express delivery worker. The delivery note is considered to be a receipt and delivery note.

The courier service delivers the goods to the address, ie. does not bring into the living space.

Delivery of items purchased on the site www.apotekaonline.rs is made exclusively through the Daily Express courier service in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. Delivery outside the territory of the Republic of Serbia, ie export of goods, is done exclusively through the service of DHL and PostExport Post of Serbia.


Shipping cost

For the territory of the Republic of Serbia:

For goods ordered up to 5.000,00 RSD, delivery charge is 350.00 RSD (VAT included). For goods over 5.000,00 RSD, shipping is free of charge.

For international delivery:

For the export of goods abroad through the PostExport service of Post of Serbia, the shipping price is for:

  • Zone I (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia) - 1,280.00 RSD
  • Zone II (Other European countries) - 1,790.00 RSD
  • Zone III (Asia, Africa, America, Australia and other countries) - 2,650.00 RSD

Delivery time is 15 days or more (depending on the country of delivery)

For export of goods abroad through DHL service, the shipping price is 2,700.00 RSD. Delivery time is 1-5 business days (depending on the country of delivery)

Shipping cost is with tax. The price includes the delivery of the parcel to the buyer's address with the associated tax and customs at the seller's expense. A possible additional cost may be a customs charge against the buyer, depending on the country to which the package is being shipped.
