BENGAY Greaseless 150 mg/g + 100 mg/g Cream is a topical medicine containing methyl salicylate and menthol.
It is used for symptomatic relief of muscle and joint pain, muscle strains, joint sprains and pain associated with minor sports injuries when the skin is intact.
One gram of cream contains 150 mg of methyl salicylate and 100 mg of racemic menthol. The 50 g pack is intended for adults and adolescents over 12 years and is available without a prescription in Serbia.
Apply Bengay only to intact skin. Do not use it on open wounds, irritated, infected or otherwise damaged skin.
Do not use a heating pad, hot-water bottle, heated compress, tight bandage or another source of heat over the treated area. Heat may increase absorption and the risk of irritation and burns.
Bengay Cream – application, dosage and important precautions
Approved uses
- muscle pain and discomfort;
- joint pain associated with inflammation or strain;
- muscle strains;
- joint sprains;
- minor sports injuries without broken skin;

The cream provides symptomatic relief. It does not replace examination and appropriate treatment for a fracture, major ligament injury, severe sprain, dislocation or another serious injury.
How to apply Bengay

- Apply to the affected area and rub gently into intact skin.
- Application may be repeated after several hours.
- Do not apply more than three or four times daily.
- Wash the hands immediately after application.
- Do not expose the treated area to direct sunlight.
Do not use excessive amounts, apply to a large body area or cover the treated area tightly.
Consult a doctor if the pain has not improved after ten days or if symptoms become worse.
Do not use Bengay

Areas to avoid
Do not apply the cream to the eyes, mouth, nose, genital area or another mucous membrane. Do not apply it to eczema, a rash, infected skin or a burn.
If it enters the eyes or mouth, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Accidental swallowing requires immediate medical assessment.
Anticoagulants and salicylates
Methyl salicylate can be absorbed through the skin. A significant increase in INR has been reported when a topical methyl-salicylate product was used together with warfarin.
Do not use without medical advice when taking warfarin, acenocoumarol, another oral anticoagulant or regular acetylsalicylic acid.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding requires prior medical assessment. Absorption may increase when a large amount is applied or a large skin area is treated.
Do not apply the cream to the breasts or an area that may come into direct contact with a breastfed child.

- severe burning, blistering or a skin burn;
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat;
- difficulty breathing or swallowing;
