Infant formula – baby milk by age - page 2
Important: breast milk is the best food for infants. Introduce formula on the advice of your paediatrician or health visitor.
Infant formula is used when breastfeeding is not possible or not sufficient, and growing-up milk is intended for young children after their first year. This category includes Aptamil, HiPP, Celia and Modilac formulas – first, follow-on, growing-up and for special needs.
Other baby food is in Baby food, and Humana formulas in Humana.

How to choose infant formula
- Age: the stage must match the baby's age; move to the next stage according to the pack instructions and your paediatrician's advice.
- Special formulas (AR, HA, LF, Comfort, Premature, Allergy) are intended for specific needs and should only be used on a paediatrician's recommendation.
- Do not switch often: every change should have a reason; if the baby is thriving, stay with the same formula.
- Pack size: 300–400 g suits a first purchase, 700–900 g once the formula is settled.
Preparation
Always use the scoop from the pack and the exact powder-to-water ratio stated on it – too much or too little powder changes the composition of the feed. Give prepared formula straight away and discard what is left in the bottle.
Pharmacist's tipPrepare bottles with boiled water cooled as instructed on the pack, and test the temperature by dripping a little on the inside of your wrist. Keep equipment clean – bottles and sterilisers are in Baby bottles. If you notice any change in the baby after introducing or switching formula, contact your paediatrician. |
