How to choose
| Type | Advantages | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Hard board / changer | Fits on a cot or bath, stable surface | It must sit exactly on the edges of the furniture it is placed on |
| Soft mat | Comfortable, portable, fits on a dresser | Raised sides and a wipe-clean surface |
| Changing dresser | Everything in one place – drawers for nappies and clothes | Stability, a height that suits the parents |
| Dresser add-on | Turns an existing dresser into a changing station | Compatibility with the dresser model |
Safety when changing
- Never leave a baby alone on the changer – not for a moment, even if you think they cannot roll yet
- Before changing, have the nappy, wipes, cream and clean clothes within reach
- Always keep one hand on the baby
- Wipe the mat after every use and disinfect from time to time
- Once your baby starts rolling and wriggling, change them on the bed or floor
You will also need nappies and baby wipes, and for the nappy area baby cosmetics.
Pharmacist's adviceAt every change, gently clean the nappy area and let it air-dry before putting on a fresh nappy. A zinc oxide barrier cream helps prevent redness. The changer height should let you stand upright – this protects your back, which matters especially after giving birth. |
