The seeds of this plant have a high concentration of nutrients to which it owes its healing properties - gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) and essential fatty acids. Gamma-linoleic acid is also obtained from black currant seeds, borage oil, blue-green algae spirulina, flax seeds and Canadian beets (canola oil). GLA participates in the production of prostaglandins in the body. Prostaglandins are a family of complex hormone-like substances that control the functioning of all organs, especially the heart, blood vessels and skin, and affect the functioning of the immune system. A lack of GLA is accompanied by a lack of prostaglandins, and this leads to health impairment.

A normal diet contains enough linoleic acid (soy, corn, peanut, wheat, sunflower, linseed oil), but the process of prostaglandin production can be hindered or stopped for various reasons: stressful lifestyle, improper diet, viruses, carcinogens, free radicals, cholesterol, saturated fatty acids, alcohol, lack of zinc or insulin, radiation, refined sugars and the aging process. In order to ingest a certain amount of fatty acids in the diet, it is necessary to use edible oils obtained by cold pressing in which they have been preserved.

We use evening primrose oil as a dietary supplement to support the prevention of all conditions in which prostaglandin would be beneficial, namely:

People who are undergoing treatment or consume large amounts of alcohol should take evening primrose oil, because it accelerates the regeneration of the brain and liver. Diabetics often suffer from neuropathy (loss of the sense of touch) and can benefit from the properties provided by evening primrose oil (McDonald and Fitzpatrick, 1998). This oil is also successful in alleviating children's hyperactivity, mental disorders, has anti-tuberculosis effect, antimicrobial and antibacterial abilities. Evening primrose oil reduces the risk of heart disease by preventing blood clotting, regulating circulation and reducing high blood pressure (Broadhurst and Winther, 2000).
