What is vitamin B12 and what is its role in the body?

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a key role in the proper functioning of the nervous system and the formation of red blood cells. It is involved in the metabolism of all cells of the human body, it affects the synthesis of genetic material (DNA and RNA) and the metabolism of carbohydrates, amino and fatty acids.
