For complete and successful lice removal, thoroughness is the most important. After using a medical shampoo or lotion, it is mandatory to comb wet hair with a special fine-toothed comb to physically remove all nits (eggs). The combing process is significantly made easier by applying a regular hair conditioner. It is necessary to repeat the preparation treatment after 7 to 10 days to destroy any lice that may have hatched from the remaining nits in the meantime. Also, be sure to wash all bedding, towels, hats, and scarves at a temperature of at least 60°C.

Modern preparations usually do not contain aggressive chemical insecticides, but work on the basis of silicone oils (dimethicone) that physically suffocate lice, so they are completely safe and mild for children's skin and hair.

The best prevention is using repellent sprays based on essential oils (like lavender, rosemary, or tea tree) that are sprayed on the hair before going to school and their scent effectively repels lice.
