What is osteoarthritis? Osteoarthritis (arthrosis) is a degenerative disease of the joints, accompanied by chronic pain and impaired mobility. Hip joints (coxarthrosis) or knee joints (gonarthrosis) are most often affected by arthrosis, and elbow, hand or shoulder joints are less common. The disease occurs as a result of degenerative changes in certain parts of the joint (cartilage, joint sleeve, joint ligaments...) due to wear and tear or use of joints under heavy load (heavy physical work, increased body weight, playing sports in which the main load is on the joints). Tissue aging, hormonal imbalance disorders, genetic predisposition, certain external factors, and injuries can play a role in its development.
