When is Medisport Super Sport ointment used, and why does it work well for outdoor training in cold weather?

Medisport Super Sport is a technical sports massage ointment from the Italian sports-medicine brand Medisport. The manufacturer describes it as an anhydrous (water-free) ointment based on stringy petroleum jelly with a warming effect, intended for massaging the muscles in preparation for intense physical exertion. It comes in a 200 ml tube.

What sets Super Sport apart from ordinary massage creams is its base. Because it contains no water, the petroleum jelly leaves a protective film on the skin which, according to Medisport, helps keep the effect of the massage going in cold and damp conditions – which is why it is used above all in outdoor sports such as football, rugby, cycling or running in winter and rain.
